Moon Phases Necklace
“Moon Phases Necklace” was a creation in 2024, while the country was very excited about Total Solar Eclipse viewable in April. As I was explaining about eclipse and phases of the moon to my 9 years old son, I thought I had perfect shapes to experiment with the idea I had for a while, which was sewing embroidery thread onto metal. I have made countless jewelry pieces with sewing techniques before, embellishing with beads and sequins, but this time I wanted to emphasize the soft and cushiony texture of the thread against a simple hard surface of oxidized sterling silver. By keeping the form very simple, graduated circular motif, I played with the color of the thread going from silver to gold. After experimenting with several different kind of thread and not finding them strong enough, I finally discovered Japanese embroidery thread for obi making.
